Events leading up to the Russian Revolution

    The Great Northern War
    The great war was a war between Sweden's Charles XII and Russian's Peter the Great. The war lasted from 1700-1721. The war was for land near the Baltic Sea. Peter the Great wanted it becasue it moved russia west. This affected Russia becasue after the war russia gained land in the west.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    The Decembrist revolt was a group of upper class people who had military experience who were rebilling against taking an oath to the czar. This revolt happened in St. Petersburg in the senatte square.The czar found out about the revolt and quickly destroyed it. After the Decembrist revolt Nicholas I created a secret police group to monitor so that these uprising would not happen again.
  • Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    This was when Alexander ll freed the serfs. The serfs were free but still very poor. He freed the serfs because the factories were running out of people to work in their factories. The serfs gained some political rights. They were allowed to own homes and tools. The downfall was that they were taxed heavily and were in debt for the rest of their life.

    This is when Alexander ll was assassinated. He was killed from a bomb that was thrown under his carriage. Before this people attempted to kill him many other times. This affected Russia because Alexander ll really helped Russia developed. It also affected Russia because he was the one who helped free the serfs.

    Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
    This was when Nicholas became the Czar for russia. He had no experience in leading but he was very smart. When he took the throne he was 26 years old. This effected russia becasue Nicholas changed a lot of things in russia. Also the people revolted against him.

    The The Russo-Japanese War was a war between the russians and the japanese. The war was fought over the some land by Korea and Manchuria. Japan won the war and russia lost land. Russia got moved backed to southern Manchuria.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Bloddy Sunday was a protest from workers who planned to present a petition to the Czar asking for better working conditions. The group was lead by Father Georgi Gapon. The group thougt it would be a peaceful march. When they arived at the palace they were met with soldiers. The soldiers then started shooting at them and more then 100 marchers were dead and many more were severly injured.
  • The Revolution of 1905

    This was a revolution that grew off of the events that happened at Bloody sunday. Riots broke out all around Russia. Peasents were burning down the homes of land owners. Due to the actions during the revolution Nicholas ll agreed to setup a elected assembly called the Duma. The Dumas job was to make minor decesions.

    World War 1 was the first world war. Russia was part of the allie power in WWl. This was the biggest war the world had seen ever. Over 25 countries were involved. World war 1 had a great impact on russia. Russia thought that the war would be a quick victory. They were poorly supplied.It also started revolutions in Russia to overthrow the Czar.
  • The March Revolution

    This was a protest that was against the war. People were rioting and protesting about the war and the shortage of food. They shouted "bread and peace". Soldiers were sent out to control the people from protesting. Some of the soldiers joined in the protesting too. This revolution caused the Czar Nicholas ll to give up his throne which then lead to russia to turn into communists.
