Evaluation: Question 7

  • Planning (Preliminary)

During our preliminary we did very minimal planning as we just wanted to get started on filming as quickly as possible. Due this, when it came to filming our preliminary we were all overwhelmed when it came to filming as we had no storyboard, plan, script or any solid idea on what exactly it was we were going to film. We learnt from this as it was a real struggle to film with no solid foundations and planning to base it on and knew thorough planning was key.
  • Production (Preliminary)

We did our filming over the course of 2 lessons and overall we spent about 45 minutes filming our prelim. We did not use a large variety of camera techniques as the camera was usually kept on a tripod, we experimented with pans and zooms but did not use handheld as we were more comfortable with the camera on the tripod. We made an attempt to use match on action but it did not match the continuity of the footage as we were still learning the techniques of filming.
  • Post-Production (preliminary)

    Post-Production (preliminary)
At this point we were very new to editing and started out learning to use Adobe Premier Pro to edit our footage. As we were new to editing we were very confused by the software and really struggled to cut and place footage which flowed seamlessly. This was apparent especially when trying to use match on action as we could not line up the clips perfectly to create verisimilitude.
  • Planning (Final Production)

    Planning (Final Production)
When it came to planning our final production we had learnt a lot from our preliminary task. During our preliminary, we had not created any real plan, plot or made a storyboard which made the task much harder for us. Due to this, when it came to planning Yours Sincerely we put a lot of time and effort into creating a solid plan for the production. This involved: brianstorming, making a schedule and primarily storyboarding to help us be as efficient as possible during the production stage.
  • Production (Final Production)

    Production (Final Production)
When it came to filming we had learnt from our prelim that it was more beneficial to film more footage than we would need to give ourselves. As well as this, we also began to experiment with different camera techniques such as focus pulls, handheld and contra-zooms as we became more comfortable with the cameras we were using to film. This gave us far more opportunities with our footage and gave it both a professional look and aesthetic appeal as we could vary our shot types.
  • Post-Production (Final Production)

    Post-Production (Final Production)
In Post-Production we decided to use after effects to edit our production rather than premier pro which we had used for our prelim. We decided to move software as it gave us more choice and opportunities on how to interpret our footage to achieve the aesthetic we wanted for our production. As we used the software more our editing became more smooth and professional, creating a more smooth and seamless production. We also added music and a voice over to develop the storyline more quickly.
