    Suleyman I  Dies
    His death led to a succesion of ineffective leaders and the decline of Ottoman empire. European leader sized the advantage of the Ottoman decline and attempted to gain control of the land becuase of its strategic location. It was the Death of Sulyman I contributed to the downfall of the Ottoman Empire.

    Muhammad Ali Gains Control Arabia
    European Imperialist fought for power in Egypt because of its geographical location. Muhammad Ali was sent by the Ottomans to govern Egypt. He later in 1831 gained control of the Arabian Peninsula and was recognized as the ruler of Egypt. He conducted a series of reformative changes in Egypt including growing the cash crop cotton. He also opened the Suez Canal to increase trade.

    Crimean War

    The Crimean war was fought between the Ottomans, Great Brittan France against Russians. Russians fought for Ottomans lands because of its strategic location for exports. France and Great Brittan fought on the Ottomans side in attempt to prevent Russia from gaining more land. The Combined forces defeated Russia. This war awakened the Ottomans to their weaknesses, and they continued to lose lands leading to a decline. The Ottomans lost Montenegro, Bosnia and other lands.

    Suez Canal Opens
    The Suez Canal connected the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. It was built using Egyptians laborers and French Money. This modernization project was very expensive and left Egypt in debt with European imperialists. Later Egypt would loose to the British.
  • Britian Occupies Egypt

    Egypt was falling behind in debt to Europeans after the creation of the Suez Canal. As a result Britian took advantage and decided to occupy Egypt for its strategical location.

    Outrage and riots over the corrupt sale of tobacco rose. Many Persian leaders disliked the Western influence boycotted. Those who revolted demanded a new constitution. The government was unable to control the situation. Finally in 1907 Britain and Russia took control of Persia and divided the land into spheres of influence.

    Russia and Britain engaged in a geopolitical struggle. Russia wanted access to the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. In 1857 Britain forced Persia to give up all claims in Afghanistan. The discovery of oil in the region further increased both imperialist nations interest in Persia.

    Russia and Britian agree on Afghanistan Borders
    In the 1800's Afghanistan laid between both the Russian and British Empire. Russia wished to extend there empire to Afghanistan to gain access Indian goods, Meanwhile Britain wished to extend its empire past India. Afghanistan became a geopolitical struggle. In 1921 Britain agrees that the empire will not go past Khyber Pass (East Afghanistan) after disputes with Russia.
