    The dicovery of the Pacific Ocean
    On September 1, 1513, Balboa left the settlement with almost 200 Spaniards and a thousand Indians in search of a great body of water that he had heard about from a native friend. As they crossed the isthmus of present day Panama, they encountered dense jungles, swamps, violent natives, and rough mountain terrain. He defeated many tribes of natives without losing any men. On September 25th or 27th Balboa climbed alone to the peak of a mountain, and for the first time saw the Pacific Ocean.

    All around the world 1519 to 1522
    Magellan's expedition of 1519 to 1522 became the first expedition to sail from the Atlantic Ocean into the Pacific Ocean and the first to cross the Pacific. His expedition completed the first to go all around the world. Magellan did not complete the entire voyage, as he was killed during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippines.

    Cortes conquers the Aztecs
    The Aztecs had substantial wealth from trading and heavy payments of tribute from conquered peoples. From 1200-1520 the Aztecs flourished and expanded their empire greatly. By the time Hernando Cortes landed in Mexico with his 600 soldiers, the Aztecs were in control of most of present-day Mexico. The expansion of the Aztecs, however, ended with the Spanish Conquest.

    Pizarro

    Atahualpa's refusal led Pizarro and his force to attack the Incan army in what became the Battle of Cajamarca on 16 November 1532. The Spanish were successful and Pizarro executed Atahualpa's took the Inca captive at the so called ransom room. Despite fulfilling his promise of filling one room with gold and two with silver, Atahualpa was convicted of killing his brother and plotting against Pizarro and his forces, and was executed.
