The Russian civil war started when the monarchy of Russia was overthrown and a republic took it place which didn't sit well for parts of the country. The two sides of the fighting were the white army which was people from outside countries and people who were counter revolutionary. The other side was the red army and they were the Bolsheviks and the Soviets. The red army came out on top in this war.

He was later killed by a Mexican communist by an axe which may have been part of Stalin's doing.
