  • Victoria

    Victoria was named in honor of president Guadalupe Victoria. Victoria was founded by Martin de Leon. Martin created a colony of primarily mexican settlers and made Victoria one of its main settlements. Victoria was located on the Guadalupe river.

  • San Felipe de Austin

    Also known as San Felipe, San Felipe de Austin was the capital of Austins colony. It was located near the Brazos river. San Felipe de Austin was set on a high bluff which made it easier to defend. Many settlers flocked to this colony. San Felipe was one of Austins most succesful colonies.

  • Gonzales

    Green DeWitt and James Kerr started a colony located on the gulf coastal plain and post oak belt. Gonzales, one of its main settlements, was located on the Guadalupe river. Gonzales suffered indian attacks because of its location and days were often long and boring.
  • Bastrop

    Bastrop was located near Comanche hunting grounds and suffered indian attacks from it. Austin tried to protect Bastrop by starting a militia. Although partially succesful, Bastrop was isolated and stayed small.
  • SFA gets permission to settle additional families in Texas

    2 irishmen, James Power and James Hewester, founded acolony north of the Nueces river.Refugio, its main settlement, was located on the site of an old mission. most settlers were irish and mexican.
  • 21,000 people live in Texas

  • San Patricio

    John McMullen and James McGloin founded another colony on the Nueces river. Its main settlement was "Saint Patrick of Ireland" or San Patricio. Located west of Refugio, San Patricio suffered a Cholera epidemic and didnt grow much.
