settlers and writing
The early settlers were farmers and built permanent homes on the banks of the Nile. This was not when the land was first discovered but they were one of the early settlers that there are records of. Picture writing was used (Hieroglyphics), this was used for formal writing, but was not used for writing dates or names. -
Upper and Lower Egypt
Narmer, the first Egyptian Pharoah, established and ruled over Upper and Lower Egypt. -
first pyramid
The first stone pyramid was built. Another type of script was created called Hieratic. This form of writing looks like hieroglyphics mixed with arabic. -
original pyramids
The pyramids of Giza was built. This is one of the seven wonders of the world, and these are the pyramids that are widely known. There are many other smaller pyramids that are not as popular as these three. -
Many Rulers
The government in ancient Egypt decreased in prosperity and many people fought to become the ruler of ancient Egypt. Everyone was interested in the riches that came with being ruler. For about 150 years, Upper and Lower Egypt had many different rulers. -
The Great Split
Upper and Lower Egypt split into different kingdoms with different rulers. -
Coptic Script
The coptic script was created. It is like greek but with seven letters added that the Greeks do not use. It is a dead language now, but in Coptic (meaning Egypt) churches they would sing hymns in coptic, so most egyptian christians know how to read it. -
Arabs
The Arabs ruled over egypt and created the language arabic. This was used in reading and writing and is still used now.
When the Arabs came to Egypt they changed the religion to Islam and that is when it is believed that Egypt stopped having Pharoahs. -
Independence
Egypt became independent from the Britians. -
Revolution
The people of Egypt had their revolution against the government and was able to free the country from Hussny Mubarak and get him out of presidency.
