Ottoman wishes to expand their empire. They started to take over most lands southern of Turkey. The ottoman empire kept increasing its power throughout Northern Africa.

Rosetta Stone Found

The Rosetta stone was found during a french expedition. The Rosetta Stone had some ancient hieroglyphs and the original stone was takien by British under the Capitulation of Alexandria. It is still in a museum today.

Suez Canal

May 3, 1869

The Suez Canal took ten years to make. It links the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea. The Bristish wanted to secure the passage to the canal.

British takes over Egypt

British Armies defeated Egypt's Army, to take over the land. British really wanted to take control of the Suez Canal. This would help with trading to India for the British. Egypt became more productive and more civil. There were many protests when British took over.

Egypt becomes a British Protectorate

British wanted to control the Suez Canal because shipping to India was too expensive. It also took awile. British also knew that if they didn't take over Egypt wouldn't give their part of the canal for free. British had to take it. That's why british wanted to protect Egypt.

Fuad l became the king of Egypt. Egypt gains its independence from British. Egypt gains there independence after many years of being under control by british.

Six day war

This war was fought by Israel and the neighboring states of Egypt, United Arab,Jordan, and Syria. The war started when Israel bombed Egypt. The war was over land. The outcome of the war was Israel gained a lot of land, like the Gaza Strip.

Anwar al-Sadat is assassinated

Anwar al-Sadat is assassinated by Jihad members. It was his 11 year as president when he got assassinated. He was a hero in Egypt. He won Nobel Peace Prize. He was also hated by the arabs.
