"New York State Board of Regents authorized a short, voluntary prayer for recitation at the start of each school day. This case deals with Pennsylvania and Maryland. This case was looking into the violation of the 1st Amendment. In the end only Pennsylvania violated the 1st Amendment but Maryland did not.

Tinker v. Des Moines
A group got together to plan a public showing of their support for the truce of the Vietnam War. They wanted to wear armbands. The principals found out and told the students that if they do this they will be asked to take them off, if they refuse they will be suspended. Within two days three students were suspended. Lemon v. Kurtzman
The taxpayers and citizens of Pennsylvania and Rhode Island thought that these schools were violating the 1st Amendment. The end result was that Pennsylvania did but Rhode Island did not.

Wisconsin v. Yoder
In the state of Wisconsin there was a law that required all children under the age of 16 to attend school. Some parents refused to send their children to these schools that followed this law after the 8th grade due to their religious beliefs. The court decided that individuals interest in the free to exercise religion under the 1st Amendment outweighed the stated interest in compelling school attendance after the 8th grade.

San Antonio Independent School District v. Rodriguez
These schools in Texas rely on the local property tax for supplemental revenue. Rodriguez acting on the behalf of the families that live in the poor districts, arguing that they're underprivileged. The court determined that they refused to examine. There was no fundamental right to education in the constitution and they didn't discriminate against all the poor people in Texas.

New Jersey v. TLO
T.L.O got her bag searched at school. The school thought she had cigarettes in her bag. The search reviled that she had that and more such as a small amount of marijuana, ad a name of people who owed her money. At first the court found her guilty but then the court reversed it due to the 4th Amendment. Public schools cannot search students belongings.

United States v. Lopez
A 12th grader at a Texas high school carried a concealed weapon to the schools premises. He was charged with violating a criminal statue, "Gun Free School Zones Act" 1990.

Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle
The Seattle district lets students apply to any school in the district. The school uses a tiebreaker to split up the students when the most popular school has too many applications. The second most popular was a racial factor to maintain racial diversity. This would be 40% white and 60% non-white. Parents thought this violated the 14th Amendment, The Equal Protection Clause, Civil Rights Act 1964, and the Washington State Law.
