Chinese Immigration to the United States

  • Move

    Move
I am traveling to America today! I will finally get to see my kids! They came over earlier so that they could establish a home and jobs. But truly why is because I am a woman, and women are not allowed to go throw without having somebody waiting for them or with them. I cannot wait to see my children after four years!

  • Ellis Island

    Ellis Island
I have arrived at Ellis Island but I have been waiting to be examined for two days now. I cannot take the waiting some people have gone in and not come back meaning they made it through. But others have come back weeping having to go back to their home country. We will see whether they allow me to go through.
  • My Children

I have been with my children for six days now! It is so great to see them they have grown up so much! They are telling me about how the state of California in which we live in, made land grants for us, the Chinese. They did this because they love our work ethic.
  • Public Schooling

    Public Schooling
My children did not mention it earlier. Chinese children are not allowed to go to public school for some reason. They say it's because the whites don't like that we are taking their jobs away from them but that is not a good reason to ruin our lively hood.
  • Farmers

    Farmers
The Chinese are being forbid from working at any company. So we are becoming farmers. Others of us are opening small laundry and shoe businesses. We do this because none of the whites want to. We profit since we are the only people willing to do it.
  • Jobs

    Jobs
Starting in 1870 nobody would employ us, the Chinese. Samuel Gompers was the president of the American Federation of Labor and he would not admit us in 1877 if we didn't already have a job. By 1877 though four-fifths of the people working in cigar factoires were Chinese, and half the shoe stores were owned by Chinese. My family however thought that it would be best to be farmers, and it was.
  • Immigrating

    Immigrating
It was reported that there were 6,700 Chinese miners in Motana in 1880. That same year 100,000 Chinese went through Ellis Island or Angel Island. I am so glad that my family went earlier because it would be so much harder to find a job. Especially here in the West it is th best place to live because it is the wealthiest so that means that you are paid more not matter what job you do.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    Chinese Exclusion Act
There was an act in 1882 not allowing Chinese to come into the United States anymore. I believe they did this because the whites complained to the government that there were too many Chinese in the country. So many of them complained that they made this act up because they can't force them out of the country when they are already here. I am very

    Chinese Exclusion Act Over
After 70 years, through many hardships, I died with great happiness. I died with great happiness because the Chinese Exclusion Act is finally over. It was renewd once in 1892 and ended in 1902. So now in 1911 I can be set free because of that.
