    Texians were upset with the Mexican government and one man named Travis fights back. General Martin Perfecto de Cos demands to arrest them. Texans held a meeting to discuss.

    Fredonian Rebellion
    Haden Edwards tried to make "old settlers" pay fees for land. Mexican government revoked his contract. Declared Republic of Fredonia. Short lived but started Mexican concern of Anglos in Texas rebelling.

    Mexican government sends Mier y Teran to investigate. People weren't following their promises and government sent troops to make Mexicans move to Texas. Abolished slavery in Mexico.

    New taxes were added to encourage trade with Mexico. No immigration, no American could live too close to the border. Enslaved Africans weren't allowed to be brought in Texas. Americans were shocked at new rules.

    Events at Anahauc and Turtle Bayou Resolutions
    Mexican government built garrisons across the state, colonel of one near Anahuac was John Bradburn to collect taxes and enforce new laws. He was accused of helping slaves escape and arrested two lawyers for interfering with his duties. Settlers went to fight and Bradburn requested for troop forces. Santa Anna leads Revolution and settlers attack. Reinforcements arrive and support Santa Anna too.

    Fighting against central party. Was supporting Mexican Constitution of 1824. Gave Americans hope since he was in charge of Mexican government.

    A convention to create a list of changes. Texas wanted to separate from Coahuila. Chose Sam Houston as president and Stephen F. Austin to take their demans to the Mexican president.

    The Arrest of Stephen F. Austin
    Went to go see Santa Anna but couldn't because of a cholera epidemic. He went to see him again and Santa Anna agreed to a few of the commands. Austin sent a letter home, it was intercepted and he was jailed. Two years later, Austin returned. For his lengthy travel, he was put in prison.
