The Khmer Rouge refuses to make peace with Cambodia. Peace treaties are signed in France, while the Khmer Rouge refuses to immobilize their forces. This makes more problems between Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge.

In 1993, Cambodia elects the new royal government of Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge continues to fight this military force for many years before final defeat.

Pol Pot is sentenced to lifetime in confinement.

Pol Pot dies in a woods hideout in 1998 because of Heart Failure. Pol Pot was under house arrest.

The civil war in Cambodia comes to an official end.

The UN establishes a tribunal with the sole purpose of prosecuting the people responsible for the Khmer Rouge's crimes.

The Khmer Rouge completely collapses. All of its leaders either are dead, or surrender.
