    In 1963, Pol Pot becomes the leader of the CPK.

    In 1964, Communist China begins giving military help to Cambodia.
  • US bombs Cambodia

    The United States bombs Cambodia killing 700,000 Cambodian citizens and damaging Cambodia's agriculture. There is a strugle for the people of Cambodia.

    Communists bomb the capital of Cambodia for the first time.
  • Cambodia Strikes

    Cambodia launches many attacks on Khmer Rouge.
  • Cambodia Strikes Back

    Cambodia causes a collapse of the Khmer republic. This starts with 117 days of difficult fighting.
  • Cambodia Surrenders

    Cambodia surrenders to the Khmer Rouge. Khmer Rouge's leader Pol Pot was in the capital Phnom Penh. At this point in time the Khmer Republic has control of Phom Penh.
  • Khmer Rouge Comes To Power

    Khmer Rouge takes control of Cambodia.
  • Khmer Rouge Takes Control of Phnom Penh

    In 1975, Pol Pot leads the Khmer Rouge to capture Phnom Penh. Most of its residents are taken into slavery and used for labor.

    A constitution is taken in and Cambodia is re-named Democratic Kampuchea.

    Cambodia breaks relations with Vientam.
  • Vietnam Takes Phnom Penh

    Vietnam captures Phnom Penh causing Khmer Rouge officials to re-establish elsewhere.
  • Khmer Rouge Loses Power

    The Khmer Rouge loses control of Cambodia. Vietnam takes the power.
  • Khmer Rouge Denounces Communism

    Although the Khmer Rouge denounces communism, they continue to fight.
  • Vietnam Out Of Cambodia

    Vietnam officialy exits the country of Cambodia.
  • Cambodia Given Name

    Cambodia is finally given its modern name Cambodia.
  • Refusal

    The Khmer Rouge refuses to make peace with Cambodia. Peace treaties are signed in France, while the Khmer Rouge refuses to immobilize their forces. This makes more problems between Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge.
  • New Government of Cambodia

    In 1993, Cambodia elects the new royal government of Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge continues to fight this military force for many years before final defeat.
  • Pol Pot To Prison

    Pol Pot is sentenced to lifetime in confinement.
  • Pol Pot Dead

    Pol Pot dies in a woods hideout in 1998 because of Heart Failure. Pol Pot was under house arrest.
  • End of the Civil War

    The civil war in Cambodia comes to an official end.

    The UN establishes a tribunal with the sole purpose of prosecuting the people responsible for the Khmer Rouge's crimes.

    The Khmer Rouge completely collapses. All of its leaders either are dead, or surrender.
