    I was born in Dublin, Ireland. We lived on a farm. I helped plant crops with my father. We had horses and cows, and I really loved living there. My family and I left to have religious views, jobs, and earn enough money to gain another farm.
  • The Great Famine

    The Great Famine
    When I was about 13 The Great Famine became a problem. A small bug found its way into our farm. It ate all of our potato crops and killed the rest. There was no food left and that was one of the only crops we could grow because of the weather. Everyone was starving.
  • Trip To Ellis Island

    I rememeber looking off the side of the ship. Everyone was crowded together looking at the horizon. The first time I sae the Statue of Liberty, my jaw was hanging. It felt unreal that we had reached our destination.
  • Homestead Act

    Because of the crops in Ireland, this lead Irish to immagrate. Settlement was happening very quickly. Over 1 million Irishmen immagrated in under a decade. So many people were looking to owning land. Due to the large population, the Homestead Act took place.
  • Federal Government

    Immagration was beginning to become quite large. It was uncontroable. Eventually, it was put into the hands of the Federal Government. $75,000 was iven for construction. They built a Federal Immagration Station on Ellis Island.
