    Battle of the Marathon

    The image is of a fast runner named Pheidippides who was sent by the Athenians to ask Sparta for help for the Battle of the Marathon. This was really long run that took days. The Battle of Marathon occurred because the Persian King wanted to invade Greece and Persians wanted to defeat Greek city-states. Even with a small group of armies, they won victoriously by trapping the Persians through the sides and attacking the Persian centre.

    The image is of the Thermopylae war where the Greeks are getting killed and defeated by the Persians. Even if there was a victory for Persians and expanded their large empire, it identifies as the start of many future victories for the Greeks. The battle of Thermopylae happened because Greeks knew that Persian was coming back to attack the Greeks. Unfortunately, the Greeks tried to move south and led the Persians to a mountain path far to the east. Greeks were trapped and were defeated.

The battle of Salamis occurred because the Greeks didn't want Persians invading their area and they wanted to win. The Greeks became victorious when Persians were secretly given false information about where Greeks were sailing towards. Greeks swiftly attack the Persians. It was the beginning of Greeks success.

    The image is a map of all the city-states with who Athens have an alliance. It was significant because it unified and brought cooperation within the city-states. When the Delian League was assembled, the strongest city-state, Athens, organized an alliance with 150 states against Persia or any enemies of Greek. There were many contributions, especially with money. However, when alliance didn't last long due to the domination of Athens.
