The conquistadors enter tenochtitlan. Cortes then arrested montezuma, placing him under guard and restricting his movements and meetings. Montezuma agrees without much complaint. He dies under guard on June 29, 1520

Cortes returned to tenochtitlan on June 23, and decided the situation was untenable. Montezuma was sent out to ask for peace, but was killed by his own people. Cortes and his men decided to try to sneak out, but were caught. Cortes lost half his me, some who were captured alive and sacrificed.
