    Moving away from home
When I witnessed the harsh laws of the British, I realized that I needed to move away for a better life for my husband and I. That is what I decided to do. America was the perfect place to go with little harsh rules to worry about.

  • On our way to America

    On our way to America
The boat my husband, Jeremiah, and I rode on is going to be a long seven week trip. The trip seems like it is going to go by really slow because most of our water caskets spilled on the fifth week because of the rocky ship and we were starting to run out of food supplies. Lots of people started getting sick including one of my friends, Edward.
  • Diseases on deck

    Diseases on deck
There have been 12 deaths due to diseases on the ship that the other passengers have taken aboard. My husband and myself are healthy, but my dear friend Wendy has caught a disease and has been getting worse on the daily. I hope Jeremiah and I will stay healthy until we reach America.
  • Close to freedom

    Close to freedom
When the boat I was on first saw land, all of the passengers ran up to the deck to get a look at our new home, America. The other passengers and I were celebrating on the boat because we had finally reached our destination after a long seven week trip.
  • Dreaming of the land

    Dreaming of the land
Jeremiah and I decided that once we get to America we needed to immediately go west and retrieve the fertile land that we had been dreaming for. It was free land, no payments for the first five years, and it gave my husband and me freedom from the harsh laws of the British that we were under.
  • More work

    More work
The Chinese Exclusion Act that had happened in the previous years would help Jeremiah and I get a job faster. All of the open jobs that usually the Chinese would take, are open to anyone that would like them now.
  • Leaky roofs

    Leaky roofs
Once we were finally settled in to our new land, my newly built house got four leaks in the roof! This made Jeremiah to go and fix the roof in the pouring down rain. He slipped and fell on the ground and was okay, but he did get a couple bruises on his elbows and knees.

    Beauty
We finally purchased our new, six month old, stallion horse. Her name is Beauty. We now have three great horses to help us wdork on the farm: Beauty, Captain, and Gem.

Jeremiah, Thomas, Holly, and I are finally settled down in America. Coming to America has been the best decision and a great way to get away from the harsh laws that the British held against my family.
