    Cedar Rapids Flood
    In the summer of 2008 we experienced a lot of rain in the area. Due to this and not enough draining areas we had flooding. We even had five-hundred year flood plains get water. The Cedar Rapids area, among others, suffered a lot of damage. Picture: Elspeth and Evan

    Ever since I was little I had wanted a dog. My parents always said we couldn't get one because they were to much for. After years of asking we finally got a little baby schnoodle(schnauzer and poodle put together). Picture:

    After only a week of having our new dog, it stopped eating. We took it to the vet but they couldn't do anything. He died a few days later.

    It was our second to last game in the 7th grade basketball season. After going 8-0 to start the season, we were getting dominated this game. Towards the end of the game I went up for a rebound and when I came down my fingers hurt. After the game my hand swelled up really bad, so I went to the doctor and it was broken.

    It was the best season we'd ever had, so we decided to go to state. State took place in Des Moines at East High School, since it's in the middle of the state. We started off strong dominating three of our first four games. Then in our fourth game we had to come back to win. We finished off winning by ten in the championship.

    When my family went down to the Lake of the Ozarks towards the end of the summer we were in the water all day, every day. Around the third day my ears started to hurt. When we got home I went to the doctor and it turned out I had swimmer's ear in both ears.

    In February people voted for wether or not to keep the Prairie bonds. The Prairie bonds help our school to get money, thus improving the quality of our school system. These voters chose yes, to keep the bonds.

    Since the economy, along with the everything else, of the Middle East is in termoil, it raises prices here. A lot of oil fields are located in their. When they are struggling their it raises our gas prices. This makes us pay more, leaving less money for parents to spend on us kids, and bills.

    I had turned fourteen two months before and wasn't really worried about getting my permit. Then on the Thursday of Spring Break my dad was home and I wasn't doing anything. He asked if I wanted to get my permit and I said sure. I passed on my first try.
