    Christopher Columbus is an Italian explorer that sailed west across the Atlantic in search of a new trade route Asia on behalf of Spain, but he landed on an island in the Caribbean. Columbus mistakenly thought he had found the East Indies and named the island San Salvador.

    Many Africans were to the Americas for cheap labor. This was called the Atlantic Slave Trade. Europeans tooks advantage of these slaves and used them to work for them. The African slaves worked on farm, plantations, gold mines, and silver mines. This made the Europeans extremely rich.

    Cortés conquers Aztec Empire
    Hernan Cortes and his couple hundred men were looking to find gold and riches. They landed in Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital. The Aztec emperor Montezume II was convinced that he was a god wearing shining armor so he agreed to give him some of the empire's gold.

    Pizarro conquers Incan Empire
    Francisco Pizarro, a Spanish conquistador, and his men land in the ancient Incan city of Cajamarca. Without hesitating, Pizarro attacks the Incas who came to greet the Spanish conquistadors. Very quickly, Pizarro and his men capture the Incan emperor Atahulapa in a matter of minutes. The emperor offers a room of gold and two rooms for silver for his survival but they kill him after taking the fortune. The remaining Incans surrender and let the conquistadors conquer their capital city Cuzco.

    Rich investors received a charter from King James to find a colony in the New World. They send out an expedition and eventually land in Virginia. The colonists their named their new settlement Jamestown in honor of their king.

    A group of English people called the Pilgrims founded another colony named Plymouth. This was located in Massachusetts. The Pilgrims were persecuted for their religious beliefs in England and they sought religious freedom. Therefore, they set out to the New World to find a settlement that wouldn't persecute them.
  • French and Indian War ends

    French and Indian War ends
    The French and Indian War was between the British and the French in the New World. The British colonists and British Army defeated the French. The French surrendered their North American holdings. The British seized control of the eastern half of North America. This war also is known as the Seven Years' War.
