Columbus sailed west across the Atlantic in search of an new trade route to asia. He took his three ships: the Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria Though he did not find this trade route, he discovered what came to be the Americas. -

First enslaved Africans arrive in the Americas
After a brutal voyage to the Americas, slaves were sold in auctations (as cattle would be) to their future owners in the Americas. Life as a slave was full of terror and work. Many of them worked on plantations and in gold and silver mines 12 hours a day. -

Cortés conquers Aztec Empire
Cortés reached the capitol of Tenochtitlan and met the emperor Montezuma. Montezuma thought that Cortés was a god so he gave the Spaniard lots of gold. Cortés' men killed many Aztec warriors during a religious festival. Cortés' men conquered the aztecs because of their superior weaponry, and the help of the Aztecs enemies, and disease. -

Pizarro conquers Incan Empire
Francisco Pizarro met the Incan ruler Atahualpa who had brought an army of 3,000 men for the meeting. 200 Spaniards ambushed the Incan force and held Atahualpa hostage. The great ruler gave one room of gold and two rooms of silver for his release. After he gave the ransom the Spanish killed him. -
English found Jamestown
A company of London investors got a charter from King John to start a colony. They created a settlement called Jamestown. The colonists gained knowledge about their land and became Englans'd first permamnent settlement in North America. -

A religious group known as the Pilgrims were persecuted for their religious beliefs. So they founded a knew colony called Plymouth. -
