    Muhammad's Birth

    In c. 570 C.E., Muhammad was born in Mecca

    Night Of Power

    The Night of Power or Laylat al-Qadr is when Muhammad is first shown the first verse of the Quran by Allah.
    In c. 610, Muhammad is teaching Islam throught the Arabian peninsula. He is visited by the angel Gabriel who tells Muhammad that he is the prophet of God and that there is only one God. Then Muhammad goes and tells the people to follow Allah, who is the one true God, but the people became angered about the idea of one God and they start to persecute both Muhammad and his followers.

    Migration to Medina

    In c.622, after Muhammad and his followers escaped the persecution in Mecca, they went to Medina where the people there accepted the Islamic religion. He then establishes Medina as the Islamic state. He also establishes laws from the Quran and from God. He then eventually invites other nations and tribes to Islam.

    Return to Mecca

    In c. 630, Muhammad returns back to Mecca with a massive amount of followers. All the citizens eventually learn to accept Islam and they clear out all the idols and false images. They all are now dedicated to one God.

    Election of Ali

    In c. 632, Muhammad dies leaving the Islam community without a leader and guide. This cause the religion to split into two groups, the Sunni and the Shi'a. The Sunni believed Muhammad did not leave a successor. The Shi'a decide to elect Ali as successor.

    Control of Syria, Palestine, and Egypt

    In ca. 641 C.E. armies from Arab, invades Syria, Palestine and Egypt. They gained control of these countries and passed on the Islam religion.

    Death of Umar ibn-al-Dhattab

    Before his murder, he made many contributions to Mecca such as the punishment of adultery and drunkness. He also brought pilgrimmage to Mecca.

    Islam in North Africa

    Because of the migration of muslims to Egypt around c. 641, Islam now begins to spread in North Africa in ca. 655.

    Uthman's Assassination

    This led to a civil war between the Kharji and the Murjiyah, It was Islam's first civil war.

    Umayyad Rule

    Around c. 661 Imam Ali is killed, therefore ending the rule of Ali. This is now the beginning of Umayyad's rule.

    Islam in the Iberian Peninsula

    In c. 711, the muslims begin to go to western Spain, and Eastern India. Then almost all of the entire Iberian Peninsula is under the control of Islam.

    Battle of Tours

    In c. 732, The empire of the Muslims has reached its limit because the Battle of Tours prevents any further advancement.

    End of Umayyads rule

    In c. 750, the Umayyads lose their rule while the Abbasids take over and moves the Muslim dynasty. This shifts the power to Baghdad. There in Baghdad, the Muslim religion grows.

    Spreading of Islam

    In c. 1000, the Islamic religion is now spreading throughout the continent of Africs, especially in Nigeria, which is where the trading between northern and central regions of Africa is occuring.

    The Holy Land

    Around c.1099, the Christinan Crusaders, from Europe, take Jerusalem from the Muslims which causes the defeat of the Crusaders, The Muslims regain control of the Holy Land.

    Islam to the Malaysians

    In Asia, around ac. 1120, Islam continues to spread. Muslims are interacting and teaching the Malaysian traders about Islam.
  • Jan 1, 1258

    Capture of Baghdad

    The Mongols, in ca. 1258 C.E., captured Baghdad. They killed the last Abbasid Caliph which caused the Islam empire to fall.

    Spain in Power

    The Spanish Muslims, in 1492, were taken over by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella who ruled Spain.
  • Muslim Slavery

    In circa 1800, 30% of Africans, in the U.S., who are forced into slavery, are Muslims
  • Hijrah Calendar

    The Hijrah Calendar, created by Umar ibn Al-Khattab, determines the beginning and end of each month by using the lunar cycle.
