    Sparta created the Peloponnesian League

    If any city-states rebel against the Delian League,Athens would destroy the city-state and enslaved the people of the city-state.After the Persian threat was gone they still punished the city-states that rebelled.Sparta created the Peloponnesian League to counter the Delian League.Athens and Sparta went to war.

    Persian War

    Persia wanted to conquer Greece after the Athens helped one of the colonies residing against the Persian and because they had a war.The first battle was the Battle of Marathon which the Greeks won by using the phalanx formation.The second battle was the battle of Thermopylae where 300 Spartans held Thermopylae for 3 days but eventually lost it.The last battle was the battle of Salamis which was a navy battle and Greeks won the war.Athens created the Delian League in case Persia attacked again

    Battle of Salamis

    The Battle of Salamis of the last battle between Greece and Persia.The battle was at the Salamis Island,Greece and was the fight was mostly on the water.Greece took down ⅓ of Persian Fleet and because of that Greeks won the war.They are liberated from the threat of the Persian and Athens became wealthy and powerful.

    Athens created the Delian League

    Athens created the Delian League in case Persia tried to attack Greece again.The city-states paid tax to the Athens and with those funds Athens had a powerful navy.The Athens would make other city-states join the Delian League.If a city-state left the League than they would destroyed the city-states and take the inhabitants as slaves.This made Athens great and powerful because of the funds they got.

    Peloponnesian War

    Athens creator of Delian League and Sparta creator of Peloponnesian League had a war, called the Peloponnesian War. The war was caused by Athens destroying any city-states that leaves the Delian League.The war happened in Greece until Pericles bring all citizen under city wall for protection. After 2 years Athens had a plague in which most of the population died including Pericles.Sparta won the war but both were weak at the end.Philip the II,King of Macedonia conquered Greek after the war

    Plague breaks on in Athens

    Pericles the leader of Athens,brings all the citizen behind the city’s wall for protection.But after the 2nd Year a plague breaks out and killed ⅓ of the population including Pericles.Apparently the disease came all the way from Egypt and fell upon us.The plague first happened in 430 BCE then hit twice in 429 BCE and 427-426 BCE

    Philip the II conquers Greece

    After the Peloponnesian War Athens and Sparta were both weakened and because of that they were easily conquered by Philip the II, King of Macedonia.The fights were at Greece because they were trying to conquered them.Philip the II thought this as a great time to attack because they were weakened.Now Macedonia has more land and has become more stronger.

    Alexander the Great become the next king

    Philip the II was killed at his daughter’s wedding and Alexander the Great became the Great king at age 20.He was smart and well-trained which made him a great king.At age 33 he shortly died of malaria and the empire was split between his general.When Alexander the Great ruled he respected the culture and religion.He built places like Alexandria in Egypt which had one of the first research library.He conquered Greece and the Persian Empire and created a Hellenistic culture.
