    776bc: The first olimpic games is held. The olimpic games is held every 4 years. Games included wreseling,jumping, javelin, and chariot racing. A crown of olive leaves was rewarded to the winner.

    650bc to 580bc: The city state cornith was taken over by kypselos he made himself king. When kypselos died his son periander took over.

  • Democracy starts in Athens.

    508bc: Democracy begins in Athens. Democracy means " ruled by the peaple." The male citizens were given a chance to vote to decide who should rule. We still do this today.

  • The "classical period"

    500bc to 323bc was known as the classical period. At this time there was a great interest in arts, imagination, and buildings.

  • salamis and marathon

    490 to 480bc: The greeks defeat persia in the salamis and marathon war. This defeat keep the growing persian empire in check.

  • Greek theatres

    472bc: Greek theatres became famous in athens. Greeks found it entertaining to watch musicians, jugglers, and plays.

    338bc: philip the 2nd king of macedonia conquers greece. When he dies his son alexander the great takes over.
