    Destruction of Knossos palace on Crete
    The Palace on Crete was destroyed by either an invasion or a natural disaster. Zeus and Europa’s son lived there and he was known for creating the minotaur.

    Bc Trojan War fought in western Anatolia

    The Trojan war was fought between Troy and Greece, it lasted for 10 years. The war began when the Trojan prince, Paris took Helen who was the wife of the Greek king. The Trojan’s wall was hard to get through but Odysseus came up with idea to make a wooden horse to get the soldiers through the wall. When the Trojans took the ore the Greek Soldiers came out and let the rest of their army into Troy.

    The first Olympic Games are held
    The first Olympic Games were dedicated to honoring Zeus. The first games had running, jumping, discus throwing, equestrian events and pankration. The games originally lasted 1 day but have been extended over time. The greeks practiced a Polytheistic religion and during the olympics each god was responsible and they controlled certain elements of human nature.

    Ionian Revolt

     Ionian Revolt
    With the help of Athens the Ionians that were controlled by Persia revolted. The Persians defeated the Ionians and were very mad with Athens, this sparked the beginning of the Persian wars.
  • Period: 499 BCE to 479 BCE

    Persian War

    The Persian wars were fought between Greece and The Persian empire. The war lasted 20 years. The three main battles of this war were, the battle of Marathon, the battle of Thermopylae and the battle of Salamis. The battle of Marathon was won by the greeks using their battle formation called the phalanx. The battle of Thermopylae was won by the Persians because of a Greek traitor. The battle of Salamis was a naval battle and was won by the Greeks and was the end of the war.

    Peloponnesian War

    The Peloponnesian war was fought between Athens and Sparta. Athens became rich after the Persian war and became allies with other city states which violated a treaty that Athens and Sparta had made.Sparta won the war and became the main power in Greece.
  • Period: 336 BCE to 323 BCE

    Alexander The Great’s Empire

    Alexander rose to power after his father, King Philip II died. Alexander’s empire spanned from Egypt to Macedonia to India. He was a very successful conqueror and he used the Phalanx, he also brought many new inventions to the battlefield such as, the siege tower and bridges that could support an army. He later died due to battle injuries and natural causes.
  • Period: 323 BCE to 145 BCE

    Hellenistic Period

    The Hellenistic Period began after Alexander the Great’s death. His empire was split into three dynasties each controlled by dynasties. The Hellenistic period was focused around displaying wealth and art. The Parthenon and the Library of Alexandria were built during this period.
