Trojan War

1194 BCE

This is one of the most famous times in Greeces' history. It is the time when the Mycenaean People climbed into a giant horse and invaded the city of troy all for love.

Greek Dark Ages

1100 BCE

This is a time when Greece started although it was still the greek dark ages it was not the dark ages for the world. This is a time when Greece was struggling and not completely an empire yet.
This is an artefact from the time of the Greek Dark Ages.

Formation of Greece

1000 BCE

This is when Greece began to exit from its dark ages and small towns started to become cities and form governments, laws and armies.

Olympic Games

776 BCE

This was created as a religious festival held in south west Greece as entertainment and to worship the God Zeus. Competitors would do their event completely naked. Also women were not allowed to watch.

Sparta Creates a Military Based City State

725 BCE

Sparta became one of the most fierce city states in the whole of Greece. They would send their children out to camps when they where only 7. They would become battle hardened and difficult to defeat in battle.

Victory Over the Islands of Salamis

480 BCE

The battle of salamis was a naval battle between Greece and Persia. It was fought in between the straights of Piraeus and Salamis.

Sacrifice of the Spartans

480 BCE

This is more commonly known as the 300. It is when the Persians and Greece were at war. Whilst Greece was gathering men to fight in the war 300 Spartans led by Leodonus went to hold the Persians off. Although completely outnumbered the Spartans managed to hold the Persians off until betrayed.

Building of the Parthenon

461 BCE

The parthenon was a temple built for the Goddess Athena. Athena was the patron of Athens. Athens is even named after Athena. The parthenon had a giant gold statue of Athena holding the goddess of victory Nike. The people of Athens would come here to worship Athena.

Greek Drama

425 BCE

This was made as a way off pleasing the god of wine Dionysus. Men would dress up and pretend to be characters to please Dionysus. They would perform to a large amphitheatre filled to the brim with spectators come from all over Greece to watch.

Alexander the Great defeats Persia and Egypt

334 BCE

This is when Alexander the Great fought and defeated Persia and Egypt making Greece a more and more powerful empire. This allowed them to defend them self form invading countries and not fall for a while.

Greece Falls

146 BCE

Greece was attacked when Alexander the great died. When Greece was attacked by the ever growing empire of Rome it started to fall. Rome's disciplined soldiers was just to much for Greece to handle and it started to fall being taken over by Rome.
