Chineese Immigrant (Angel Island)

  • Birth: Shanghai, China

Life was bad in China when I was born. The Meiji took control and ruined everything. Fedulisism was taken away, political power was centered, and much more. My family took me to America. We searched for a better life and a clean slate, but for Chinese, life was very hard here but we had no choice. I am writing this to explain how life was like for Chinese immigrants and how we were wrongfully treated in America.

    Life in China
I was only an infant when i lived in Chine, but my parents tell me it was a bad place. China was going to be overrun if we did not accept American trade. Also the Westeners did not hve to follow Chinese laws. Even our Samurai were forced to learn western science and technology. That is when my mother and father had enough. We left straight for America to start our new lives.
  • Angel Island

We finally arived to Angel Island in California. It was terrible. Everybody treated us bad and called us names and it was so hard. At the Immigrant Station, my father almost got beat up. After we made it through, My father was lucky because smebody had died and he got to take their job. He had to build railroads and handle Tnt and explosives for 2 dollars a day. After awhile we finally had wenough money to buy a house.
  • First job

    First job
I was only a boy when i started working. There was no other way to get money. Every day was the same pounding down railroads all ay everyday. Me and my father worked very hard. My mother was forced to work all day around the house because everybody would always disturb our property. We saved enough money for food and we started making our own crops. Life was hard but we kept moving along.
  • The Chineese Exclusion Act.

    The Chineese Exclusion Act.
There was a new law passed called the Chineese Exclusion Act. Just when I thought it couldnt be any worse, it just did. My parents and I decided to stay because we did not want to go back to China. For a long time we have been in hididng, stealing food and supplies at night and surviving on our own. We did not know how long we would last. We would have to find out sooner or later.

    Adult Hood
Ten Years later the Chineese exclusion Act allowed Chinese immigrants to come back. My father got caught and was killed and my mother Died days later. Things were getting a little better and i met a lady who was Chinese as well. We got together and are soon going to have children and start a family. If things keep getting better, We will live here in America.
