    The Cotton Gin
    The Cotton Gin was invented by the mechanical engineer Eli Whitney to clean the seeds out of cotton. The Cotton Gin allowed significantly more cotton to be produced. The amount rose from 3,000 bales a year to 73,000 bales a year. The farmers realized the demand for cotton and the profit they could make form it and bought more land for cotton. But, this new land also required more slaves to work on the farms which contributed to the problem of slavery.

    The Steel Plow
    The Steel plow was invented by John Deere. This plow replaced the old Iron Plow. The Steel Plow was lighter weight and more efficient. As a result of this new tool, more farmers moved to the midwest because they had better tools to farm the land.
