  • Thirty Years' War

    Thirty Years' War
    The war lasted a full thirty years and originally caused by the religious tensions between Protestants and Catholics. But over the thirty years the continuous fighting was to decide who would end up governing Europe. This event caused the death of 8 million. This event is so important because it changed Europe forever and the population was largely decreased. Germany itself by a whole 20% of its population.

  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    William III and Mary II endorsed this bill and it was then signed into law. The Bill of rights set the foundations for a monarchy in England and inspired the United States Bill of Rights. Most importantly though this bill gave civil rights to the people. This event is so important because England was a world superpower and set the tone for other countries to follow in their footsteps.
  • War of Austrian Succession

    War of Austrian Succession
    The death of Emperor Charles VI plunged the country into chaos and his sucessor was Maria Theresa. Unfortunately many outside countries disagreed that there should be a woman ruler and that she was not fit for the position. Countries like France and Prussia saw these events and decided to act on it and challenge Habsburg power. The war lasted 8 years and ended with Mara Theresa having rule over Austria and Hungary.
  • Stamp Act 1765

    Stamp Act 1765
    The Stamp Act was put in place by Parliament as a tax directed toward British colonies in America. Parliament did this because they were unhappy that this group was leaving England and saw them as a threat. This tax said that all printed materials had to be printed on a stamped piece of paper that you had to pay for. This tax was uncalled for and it just encouraged British Colonists more to begin retaliating against the crown. This act was the push that colonists needed to begin retaliation.
  • American Revolution

    American Revolution
    The American Revolution was a Revolution that allowed American patriots to become their own independent country from Great Britain. The conflict was caused by unfair taxes being placed on colonists by Britain. The colonists revolted and the conflict began. Later the French joined to aid the colonists and eventually play a vital role in attaining a colonial victory to gain independence from Britain. This event is of extreme importance because it created one of the worlds superpowers to this day.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris was the official end of the American Revolution. Brokered by Benjamin Franklin, the Treaty was signed by King George III. The treaty described that America is now recognized as its own country and that it has separated from the crown of Britain. This event was crucial in ending the Revolution and to start forming the American government.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    This Oath is called the Tennis Court Oath because it was sworn by the deputies of the Third Estate on an indoor tennis court. The oath descrbied that they would not disband or reassemble their forces until they had a new French constitution in place.
  • Storming of Bastille

    Storming of Bastille
    The storming of Bastille was a critical event in French History and marked the start of the French Revolution. The storming was a result of unfair taxation by the monarchs and revolutionaries were trying to send a message that they were unhappy. Bastille was a prison that held very few inmates but was extravagant and not used to the extent it should have been. The common-folk were not happy with the use of their tax money and revolted and so began the French Revolution.
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror
    The Reign of Terror was a period when both revolutionaries and the royal army were massacring each other. The monarchy was trying to impose their will on the revolutionaries, just as the revolutionaries were trying to do the same to the monarchy. During the reign of terror not only were their massacres but there were also a large number of public executions that took place, This is an important event in French History because it was a crucial period when the First French Republic was created.
  • French Revolution

    French Revolution
    The French Revolution was a time where the French people rebelled against the monarchy. France had just aided the Americans in the revolutionary war and the economy was headed south due to bad weather for crops.The monarchs still continued to spend and build lavish palaces. The French people were unhappy with the way they were being taxed and wanted no part of the absolute monarchy any longer. The French Revolution was won by the people and so The First Republic of France was created. (1789-99)
