Port Arthur Attack
Russia and Japn sign a series of agreements over the territories of Korea and Manchuria but Russia broke the agreement, So 28 retaliation, Japan attacked the Russians at Port Aurthur, Manchuria. -
Bloody Sunday
About 200,000 workers and their families went to the Czar's Winter Palace in St. Petersburg to ask for better working conditions, personal freedom, and an elected national legislature. Nicholas 2nd generals ordered soliders to fire on the crowd. More than 1,000 were wounded and hundreds were killed. This provoked violence across the country. -
Duma Begins
Russias first parilament was formed by leaders who were moderates that wanted Russia to become a constitutional monarchy similar to Britian. But Nicholas was hesitant to share his power and the Czar got rid of the Duma after 10 weeks. -
Russia into World War 1
Nicholas 2nd decided to enter in World War 1 but they had an extremly weak military and were no match for Germany. In less than a year, 4 million Russian soliders were killed, captured, or wounded. This showed the weakness of Cazrist rule and leadership. -
Women Revolt
Women textile workers in Petrogract led a city wide strike over shortages of bread and fuel. Solider started shooting them but later joined them. -
Winter Palace Storm
Armed factory workers stormed the winter Palace in Petrograd. They called themselves the Bolshevik Red Guards and took over government offices and arrested leaders. They ordered that farm land be distributed to peasants. -
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
Russia and Germany signed Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Russia had to give Germany a lot of land which made the Russaians very mad. -
Western Aid
Some western nations sent military aid and forces to help Russia with white Army. -
New Economic Policy
Lenin set up New Economic Policy which allowed peasnts and small buinesses to sell their surplus of crop instead of giving them to the government. -
An Honorable Name
Country named Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in honor of the councils that helped launch Bolshevick Revolution.
