After getting kicked out of the team, Buck found yet another owner. However, this new owner was very promising, one who adored and loved Buck.

As they arrived to a new town, Buck was placed to a bet. People bet that he would be able to lift huge pounds of bag across town. Buck's determination to impress John Thornton was great, winning him the bet.

As winter ended, Buck and John Thornton went to camp on a nearby forest. Buck then found a king moose and they battled it out in the forest.

After defeating the king moose, when Buck came back to camp.. John Thornton was dead. Several Indigenous people from the forest attacked John Thornton.

Buck was furious. He attacked and killed everyone who killed John Thornton.

Buck stayed inside the forest, beside John Thornton's body. He was then spotted by a few wolves later that night.
