    The Arab League was in Cairo in 1945, by Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan and Yemen. Egypt was suspended after signing the Peace Treaty with Israel in 1979 but had rejoined in 1989

  • Mubarak - Third Term

    Mubarak has been in power since 1981 until this current day. This is major because he has become Egypt's longest president.
  • 58 Tourist were killed

    58 tourists were killed by gunmen in front of the Temple of Hatshepsut near Luxor. It is alleged that Egypt's Islamic Group (al-jama'ah al'islamiyah) is responsible. Egypt's Islamic Group is the largest militant group. The group's spiritual leader, the Omar Abdel al-Rahman, was jailed in the United States for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing
  • Pipeline Project

    This was called the Arab Gas Pipeline. This billon-dollar project was between Egypt, Lebanon and Syria. This gave an opportunity to export Egyptian natural gas to the rest of the Middle East, making a lot of money while losing almost 10.3 billion. Each country the pipeline had gone through. Syria and Turkey had later made joined the connection to the gas pipeline. Later after that in 2004, Egypt agreed to connect the Arab Gas Pipeline, Iraq’s gas. This project was planned to be complete by 2010.
  • Train catches fire south of Cairo

    In Egypt, the capital is Cairo. 370 people died on board an Egyptian train. Many people have never seen such a terrible thing happen before. The Train was on a route from Cairo to Luxor when the fire broke out. This accident came at a busy travel time throughout the Muslim world. It was called one of the worst train accidents.
  • Polls - NDP and Muslim Brotherhood

    Parliamentary polls end with clashes between police and supporters of the opposition Muslim Brotherhood. Muslim Brothers is a Sunni transnational movement and the largest political opposition organization in many Arab states, mostly Egypt. They are one of the oldest and largest Islamic political groups.   • Atomic Bomb

    Egypt and at least six other Arab countries are developing nuclear technology to diversify energy sources. All these countries want to build civilian nuclear energy program. The sudden rush to use nuclear power has raised suspicions, that the real intention is to acquire nuclear technology, which can be used for the first Arab atomic bomb. Egypt and other countries are stating that they need cheap, safe energy for the expanding economy and growing populations at the a time of high oil prices.
  • Muslim Brotherhood go on trial

    More than 30 members of the Muslim Brotherhood go on trail. The first time in 7 years that members of the group have been under military jurisdiction.
  • 7 Jouranlists are imprisoned

    Egypt’s government had protested against, “government harassment” after 7 journalists were imprisoned and an editor was put on trial. 1 Journalist was put in jail for 6 months for reporting rumors about Mubarak’s health. Rights groups demand change to law on reporting “false information”
  • 25 Muslim Brotherhood members put in jail

    Military courts sentence 25 Muslim Brotherhood members to jail terms, so that there were no more targeting organizations. More than 800 were arrested over a month. The Brotherhood boycotted municipal elections after only 20 candidates allowed to stand.
  • Lebanese group go on trial in Cairo

    26 members of the Lebanese militant group (Hezbollah – Guerillas) go on trial in Cairo on charges of plotting attacks in Egypt and helping to send weapons to Hamas in Gaza. The group was charged with planning attacks on tourists and shipping in the Suez Canal, and sending explosives to Gaza to aid terrorists there.
  • Obama makes a key speech in Cairo

    Barack Obama makes a speech in Cairo calling for a new beginning between the United States and the Muslim world. The president didn’t unveil a new policy or peace treaty, but stated the radical idea: respect for the Arab and Muslim world.
  • Mohammed ElBaradei returns to Egypt

    Former UN nuclear chief Mohammed ElBaradei returns to Egypt and, together with opposition figures and activists, forms a coalition for political change. ElBaradei says he might run for president in the election scheduled for 2011.
