3.4 French Revolution Timeline

  • Louis XVI comes to power

    This is the year that Louis XVI comes to power. Louis was not a great king. He did not pay very much attention to others who worked. in the government. This is important because this had a role in the beginnings of the French evolution.
  • Assembly of Representatives

    This was the meeting of all three estates. The goal of the meeting was to make a choice about the taxes that Louis wanted to put into place. This was needed because France had almost no money left. This is important because this was the very beginning of the revolution.
  • The National Assembly

    The National Assembly was a group of people from the third estate. They passed laws for people in France. They had a big part in the start of the French Revolution. If it were not for the National Assembly the revolution might not have happened.
  • No more estates

    On his day people joined the National Assembly in protest. They were protesting for equality. The goal was for all Estates to be equal. This was important o the revolution because it meant that there were no more Estates.
  • Louis attempted escape

    At this time Louis tries to escape from France. He does this with his family. He felt as though he was not safe in France with the rising power of the National Assembly. This is important to the. revolution because it shows that Louis has accepted defeat.
  • New Constitution

    A new constitution was made. This constitution took away most of the kings powers. It also created the Legislative Assembly. They had the power to reject and approve declarations of war. This was important to the revolution because it was the time when the king loses most of his power.
  • France goes to war

    France and the National Assembly go to war. They declare war on Austria and Prussia. The reason for this is because they were not happy with the current government and wanted the king to go back to his previous position. This is important to the revolution because it is the first war with the national assembly in power.
  • Robespierre gains power

    Robespierre was the leader of Committee of Public Safety. He would act as a dictator for some time. He was behind what was. known as the Reign of Terror. This. was important to the revolution because it was the rise of a new power.
  • Robespierre is arrested and executed

    The National Convention and some of its members decided to turn on Robespierre. They wanted him to be killed. This would. mean the end of Robespierre's rule, and an end to the Reign of Terror. This was important to the Revolution because it meant there would be a new form of government formed.
  • Napoleon becomes emperor

    Napoleon choose to make himself emperor in 1804. This was the start of Napoleon's empire. He would go on to to conquer a large part of Europe. It meant a big change in the revolution.
