Which this struggle soon lead to the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre( August 23, 1752- Mass killings and bloodshed btwn Huguenots and Protestants) Although portrayed as a religious war, it was also political and civil, considering that both parties attempted to weaken the crown and control government.

Henry Guise led the Catholic League, Henry Navarre led the Huguenots and HenryIII invites Guise over and assasinated him with his step brother. Henry III blamed politues and fled to Paris, but assasinated. Henry Navarre won by default because of the deaths of Henry III and Guise.

The Edict of nanted was introduced as a peace settlement between the Protestants and Catholics. Although religious tolerance was stated in the document, it wasn't reflected between the two parties. There was still killings and mass desrcuction during that time period and later on in 1628.
