From October to December a volunteer Texas army defeated Mexican forces at San Antonio de Béxar. This was an early campaign of the Texas Revolution.

Texans have successfully taken over the Alamo but were caught by surprise when Santa Anna arrived on February 23rd and trapped them in the mission. Texans refused to surrender by shooting a cannon which started the 13-day Battle of the Alamo. Travis wrote a letter pleading for help and got a few troops on March 1st.

The Convention of 1836 started on March 1st with 44 delegates in attendance and ended with all 58 delegates by March 17th. On March 2nd, the Declaration of Independence was adopted, and the signing began the following day. By March 17th, the convention adjourned due to reports of the Mexican army approaching. The convention ended by appointing an ad interim government with David G. Burnet as president. Sam Houston was named commander in chief of the republic's military forces.

On March 6th Santa Anna ordered a surprise attack early in the morning killing 189 Texas men. The battle lasted 90 minutes and was seen as cruel by some of Santa Anna's troops because the Texans were low on supply and would probably surrender soon.

When Santa Anna began his attempt to conquer Texas in February Texans called the flight from their home the Runaway Scrape. Texans began leaving their homes as early as January 14th when Mexicans started gathering on the Rio Grande. When Sam Houston arrived in Gonzales on March 11th he learned of the fall of the Alamo he decided to retreat to the Colorado River and ordered all others to join him. Houston's retreat marked the beginning of the Runaway Scrape on a large scale.

James Fannin surrendered at the Battle of Coleto with the condition that he and his troops be taken back to the United States as prisoners of war. Instead, the Texan troops were taken to Goliad and executed in front of the Bahia Chapel.

This was the last major battle in the Texas Revolution. The Mexican camp was quiet at 3:30 pm when cries of “Remember the Alamo” and “Remember Goliad” rang out and the Texan army surprise attacked the Mexican troops taking their nap. The battle lasted 18 minutes killing 630 Mexicans and 730 were taken, prisoner. Santa Anna disappeared during the battle and was found on the morning of the 22nd.

Once Santa Anna was captured at the Battle of San Jacinto he was taken to sign the treaty. The treaty stated that Santa Anna could never fight against Texas and for Mexico to evacuate past the Rio Grande. This officially ended the Texas Revolution.

The Mier expedition developed from the Somervell expedition that captured Laredo and Guerrero. This expedition was the last raiding expedition from Texas.

The treaty ended the war between the U.S. and Mexico. The ceded Mexican land makes up Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, and Utah. Mexico relinquished all claims to Texas and recognized the Rio Grande as the southern border.
