1789-1840 unit timeline

  • Spread of Baptist/ Methodist 1789

    Tent revivals helped these religions grow closer to God and allowed them to spread and influence their religion on others. George Whitefield traveled the nation developing and growing peoples religions through tent revivals(Pavla.G. Shakelton).
  • Cotton Gin 1793

    Made the production of cotton increase because of how fast it seeded cotton and turned it into a fabric. The cotton gin helped with the increase of slavery and jobs(Chapter 14 of Ga textbook).
  • Yazoo Land Fraud 1795

    Georgia government got involved in illegal land dealings and would sell plots of land for cheap prices. Companies bribed Georgia $500,000 to gain 35 to 50 million acres of land(Chapter 14 of Ga textbook).
  • UGA Developement 1801

    Abraham Baldwin gained land so that he could establish UGA. The creation of UGA led to its first graduating class in 1804(Georgiainfo.com).
  • Georgia land policies and land lotterys 1805

    The government owned land on which they could force Natives off of and could also remove the Natives. After the war of 1812 the Natives were being removed from their land, and so farmers started their farms and began production(Chapter 14 of Ga textbook).
  • Cherokee and Creek Removal 1826

    Government officials signed and passed removal acts that forced natives from their homes. The Indians were weakened and could not protect themselves(Chapter 14 of Ga textbook).
  • Dahlonega Gold Rush 1829

    Gold was found in Dahlonega and people wanted to settle it, however there were natives that had already settled the land so they removed them. National government built a mint in Dahlonega which turned the gold mine settlers into successful men(Ga textbook).
  • Worcester V. Georgia 1832

    Was a court case determining whether natives be removed from their land or if they could settle their land. James Jackson tried to help the natives from being removed from their land(Chapter 14 of Ga textbook).
  • Trail of Tears 1838

    Indians were forced out of their land and had to walk hundreds of miles to find new land to settle. On their journey over 2,000 Indians died from sickness and so the rest began to weaken from lack of food and water(Chapter 14 of Ga textbook).
  • Railroads 1845

    Allowed easier trade between people throughout the state of Georgia. Small towns would pop up along the end of the railroads and this increased the population of slaves and farmers(Chapter 14 of Ga textbook).
