  • WWII begins

    Germany invades Poland and thus begins WWII
  • Elie meets Moshe

    Elie befriends Moshe the beadle, who tells him vivid stories about the universe and God being in the center of it. Moshe helps Elie hone his faith.
  • Moshe escapes

    Moshe the beadle, who had gotten captured by the gestapo and taken to a slaughter house, had managed to escape back to Sighet to warn the Jews there.
  • Arrested

    Nazis arrest Jewish leaders and quarantine Jewish citizens. Jews are banned from public transportation and restaurants due to the Star of David they were forced to wear.
  • Uprooted

    Nazis took Jews from their homes and had them line up at 8 A.M. and 1 P.M. The first group was then departed via train
  • Little Ghetto

    The Jews are then moved to the Little Ghetto. They try their best to remain positive. The Wiesels find a home and move in and try to settle down
  • On the rails again

    Elie and the Jews living in the Little Ghetto are moved and are told to form two lines: one for males, another for females. Elie just gets a last glance of his mother and sister before they're gone forever.
  • Birkenau

    Elie and his father Chlomo arrive and spend the night in the concentration camp Birkenau before being shipped to Auschwitz. There they meet Stein of Antwerp.
  • Buna

    Elie and Chlomo are marched to Buna, a work factory for Jews who seemed fit for the work there. Elie lies to the S.S. and says he's 18 in order to stay with his father.
  • Evacuate!

    After having surgery, Elie and Chlomo are forced to run with fellow evacuees to board open-cattle carts and are shipped to Buchenwald
  • Liberated

    Shortly after the evacuation of the Jews by the Nazis, the Red Army liberated Auschwitz
  • Chlomo's death

    Chlomo had given up on life by the time they reached Buchenwald. He aquired dysentary and was starving to death when one of the S.S. struck him and took him the to crematory.
  • Free at Last

    The U.S. Army sweeps in and liberates the Jews from the clutches of the Nazis. Elie suffers from food poisoning.
  • End of the War

    Surrender signed on American battleship USS Missouri, thus ending the War.
