Triple Alliance
The Triple Alliance was formed by Germany, A-H, and Italy. Germany wanted to isolate France, so Bismark decided to form this alliance. This made an effect on the war because when one country would go to war, the alliances would go to war as well. -
Kaiser Wilhelm II
Kaiser Wilhelm II forced Bismark to resign and then he becomes ruler of Germany. He expires the alliance with Russia and that effected the war becasue this made Russia angry. -
Russia allies with France
Russia decided to ally with France because this would make it harder for Germnay to fight because they would have to fight on both fronts of border. The effect is that it would not be easy for Germany to fight. -
The Triple Entente
Great Britain, France, and Russia formed an alliance. Great Britain decided to do this because Germany wanted to have equal navy as Britain did. This had an effect on the war because it caused sides of Europe. -
Ferdinand and Sophie assassinated
They were assassinated in Sarajevo. This made Austria-Hungary furious.This had an effect on the war because this caused tensions between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. -
Austria-Hungary offered an ultimatum
Since people of Serbia shot the heir of the the throne of Austria-Hungary, Austria-Hungary offered an ultimatum which is a list of punishments to Serbia. Serbia declined it. So, this is an effect on the war because this meant that Serbia and Austria-Hungary would go to war. -
A-H declared war
Since Serbia declined the Ultimatum, A-H declared war against them. This caused each others alliances to fight with them. This was an effect in the war becuase this triggered all of Europe to enter the war. -
Germany declares war on Russia
The German government declared war on Russia becuase of their mobilization on the German border. Russia did this becuase they knew that Germany was allies with Austria-Hungary. This had an effect on the war because the allies had to fight all the other Central power countries. -
The Battle of Tannenburg
The Russians had trouble getting supplies to their army while, the Germans were using the railroad system and the Germans were able to surround Russian's army without them noticing. The Germans won the battle, but many Germans were killed and Russia was able to gain German prisoners. This had an effect on the war becuase it caused these two countries to increase their tensions. -
War on France
Right after Germany declared war on Russia, they quickly declared war on France as well because Russia and France were allies. This had an effect on the war becasue it casued Germany to fight on both fronts. -
Britain declared war on Germany
Britain declared war on Germany becuase Germany had declared war on one of Britain's allies. Great Britain feared Germany's naval army and Briatin feared that Germany would get too close to their border. This had an effect because now Germany has to fight Great Britain too. -
1rst Battle of the Marnes
The first Battle of the Marnes was when Germany went to fight France first so that they could conquer them first. They used Trench Warfare which was the Schleiffen Plan. Germany reached Paris but they did not completely conquer it. By this time, Russia already reached Germany. It ended as a stalemate. This was an effect on the war because it was the most important war. -
Ottoman Empire joins Central powers
The Ottoman Empire jooined the Central powers because of Germany. Germany convinced the Ottoman Empire to join.This had an effect because now the Ottoman Empire would have to fight against the allies and cause more divisions. -
Battle of Limanowa
This was between the Austria-Hungarians and the Russian Army. This battle was won by the Austria-Hungarian Army. This had an effect on the war because it caused more anger and problems. -
Gallipoli campaign
Allies wanted to end stalemate, so they decided to attack Dardanelles of the Ottoman Empire. They would conquer Constantinople and that would establish a supply line to Russia. In the end, the allies had to retreat due to too many casualties. This had an effect becuase it can cause more problems on the Western Front. -
Italy joins Entente (allies)
Italy decided to join the Triple Entente becuase Germany and Austria-Hungary were using agressive actions instead of having defensive reasons. This had an effect on the war but it caused more problems between the Allies and the Central Powers. -
Germany sinks the ship
Germany sunk the U.S.S. Lusitania. This pushed the Americans closer to war. This also had an effect on the war becuase the Americans only got closer to the war becuase of the Germans. This would cause America to enter the war. -
Battle of the Somme
This battle was one of the bloodiest battles. Over 1 million casualties.The British thought it was safe enough to come out of the Trenches and as they got out, German soldiers started firing bullets straight towards them. So, basically the British soldiers were walking straight into bullets. This had an effect on the war becuase later on, it caused Britain to get mad -
Unrestricted Submarine Warfare
Germans announced that their submarines would sink without warning any ship in the waters around Britain. This had an effect on the war because the Germans ended up going against that law and it was one of the causes of America entering into the war. -
Zimmermann Note
The Zimmermann Note was sent from Germany to Mexico saying that if Mexico would ally with Germany, the Mexicans can get all the land they had lost to the United States. This note was intercepted by the British and the British showed this letter to the U.S.A. This was an effect of the war becuase that caused America to get really angry and ended up being that America would enter the war soon. -
Woodrow Wilson asks Congress to declare war on Germany
Woodrow Wilson wanted to declare war on Germany becuase of what Germany has done to the U.S. This would have an effect on the war becuase it made everyone get on America's side. -
Russia's end in World War I
Russia's food shortages and fuel brought czar's government to collapse. After he left government, they decided to keep on fighting in the War, but there were too many soldiers wounded, killed, and taken as prisoners. So, when Lenin came,he wanted to take Russia out of the war. This would have an effect becuase the Russia would be out of war. -
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
This Treaty ended war between Germany and Russia. Although, Russia had to surrender lands to Germany,that now include Finland, Poland, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. They gained their independence. This had an effect because now officially, Russia was not involved anymore. -
2nd Battle of the Marnes
The second Battle of the Marnes was that the Allies had won the war against Germany. After this, the Central Powers started to crumble. Many countries surrendered as well. This had an effect because the war almost ended. -
Armistice
An Amistice is an agreement to stop fighting. Leaders of all the nations gathered outside of Paris to work out the terms of peace and they made the peace settlement. This was a big effect because it ended the war.
