  • Chinese Nationalists oust the last Qing emperor, Puyi

    Chinese Nationalists, led by Sun Yat Sen, oust the last Chinese emperor, Puyi, and force him to flee to America. This begins the period of time known as the Chinese Republic.
  • World War I begins as Austria declares war on Serbia

    After the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by the Serbian nationalist organizaion Black Hand, Austria imposed a list of demands on Serbia. AFet some, but not all, of these demands were met, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia and inveded.
  • U.S. Enters the Great War

    After the sinking of passenger ship Lusitania, and the interception of a German telegram requesting a Mexican invasion of the US in return for German support and the right to take back lands lost by Mexico to the US, the United States declares war on Germany and its allies.
  • Armistice signed as Allies defeat Central Powers

    After years of bloackading take their toll on the German homefront, the German people are ready to give up. The armed forces mutiny, and the people rise up against the Kaiser, who is forced to flee to Holland. The new provisional government signs an armsistice with the Allies.
  • Gandhi leads Indian camapaign of civil disobedience

    After fighting for the British in the Great War does not gain Indian independance, Ghandi calls for a campaign of Civil Disobediance, which is a refusal to abide by unjust laws.
  • Mustafa Kemal transforms Turkey into a republic

    Mustafa Kemal, also know as Ataturk, "Father of the Turks," transorms the crumbling remains of the Ottoman empire into the new Republic of Turkey
  • Mao Zedong heads Long March

    After the Communist stronghold is attacked by Nationalisits, Chinese communists set out upon a 6,000 mile march to the north, and escape the Nationalists.
