Germany invaded France through Belgium. In the Battle of the Marne the French and British managed to stop the Germans just before they reached Paris. Lost huge numbers of men in battles like the Battle of Verdum and Battle of the Somme.

Russia invaded both Germany and Austria-Hungary. It suffered a terrible defeat against the Germans at the Battle of Tannenberg. In 1915 the Central Powers counterattacked.

In 1917 there were two revolutions in Russia. Russia had to withdraw from WWi. The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed by Russia and the Central Powers, which ended the war Eastern Front.
The United States had joined the Allies. In the Hundred Days offensive, the Allies won a decisive victory. On 11 November 1918 Germany surrendered.
