    The Triple Alliance was an alliance between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. This agreement meant that the countries would protect each other from an attack from another country. The Triple Alliance was created by Otto Von Bismarck in 1882. He created the alliance because he wanted to isolate France, he thought the French posed a threat to peace. The Triple Alliance would later become known as the Central Powers when the war begins, without Italy.

    On June 28, 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand was in Serbia with his wife. While he was there he was shot and killed by Gavrilo Princip. Gavrilo Princip was a nineteen year old Serbian and a member of the Black Hand. (The Black Hand was a sercret society that would not stop until Bosnia was free of Austria rule.) Austria-Hungary used the murder as a way to wage war on Serbia. This was the cause that started the war.

Then they would go to their border with Russia and be able to finish them off because they would not have the French to help them.     The Gallipoli Campaign all started when the Allies formed a strategy to attack the Dardanelles , a region in the Ottoman Empire. The Allies thought if they gained the Dardanelles they would be able to send ammunition, uniforms , and food to Russia. The effort to take the Dardanelles strait on February 1915 is the Galipoli Campaign. The Gallipoli Campaign was very important because instead of gaining the strait, they lost a huge amount of 250,000 casualties.

In Total War women substitute for men, they built amunition, worked in factories or shops. The government announced if it was a total war. They control everything including how much and what factories sold. This was important because they encouraged war activity, and they broadcast news about the war using propaganda.

    Russia withdrew from the war on March 1917 because they did not have a substantial amount of supplies,and they had lost many soldiers. They also had to fight off a revolution that shook RUssia . Vladimir Ilynch stretched an olive branch to Germany on March 1918 with the Brest-Litovsk treaty. This treaty was very important because it ended the war between them. It also allowed the Germans a place in the Western Front.

    America joined the Allies in 1916 because the Germans granted unrestricted submarine warfare, which is when german submarines went into British waters without any warning this caused 3 American ships to sink . Another reason was because they intercepted a telegraph, that told hispanics if they joined the central powers they would help them reconquer their land. This event was important because this caused Germany to surrender because they didn’t have as much supplies or soldiers as America.

    The Legacy of WWI was sad and brutal and it even was demonstrated through the arts. It left behind a trail of innumerable deaths caused by the inventions. It caused many countries to lose a lot of money especially Germany.In fact the total costs of the war was $338 million. The war destroyed farms, homes, villages and towns. It caused the survivors pain and insecurity from the war. Many felt despair, they felt as if there was no hope.

    WWI caused new nations to form like Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Palestine, Iraq etc. Many of them formed around 1919-1920. These new nations formed from Austria- Hungary,Russia, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans had to give up almost all their land to the allies because of their connections to the central powers . Russia had to lose territory to Romania and Poland because they left the war early. This was important because it caused the creations of new countries.

    The Treaty of Versaille was between Germany and the Allied Powers. This treaty was considered “a peace built on quicksand”, it left anger in Japan and Italy because they gained little land. It outraged Germany and other countries because they didn’t receive any independence. Many Americans objected to this treaty, they formed a separate treaty with Germany because that was their only hope to a long lasting peace. This event was important because it caused the world to enter another cruel war.
