    The Creation of the Dual Alliance
    This alliance was between Germany and Austria-Hungry, and was created by Bismark.
    The creation of the Dual Alliance was significant because it was the start of the Triple Alliance, once Italy joins in. The Triple Alliance was an alliance between the Germans, Itialians, and the Austria-Hungarians.

    Creation of the Triple Alliance
    The Triple Alliance was an alliance, when two people agree to be “friends”, between Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungry. This Triple Alliance created an Alliance System. An Alliance System is agreements or promises to defend or help another country.
    This event is significant to the cuases of World War I because it created one side of the war.

    Alliance of Russia and France
    In 1892 and 1894 Russia created a defensive military alliance with France. The creation of such an alliance was a large fear of Bismark's and made the war much more difficult than expected by the Germans.
    This event was significant because if the Germans brought war apon either the French or the Russians, that would mean that Germany would be at war with both countrys.

    Rise of Kaiser Wilhelm II and resignation of Bismarck, lapse of treaty with Russia
    In the year 1898, Welhem II had become the ruler on Germany, and forced Bismark out of his position. He was very self centered and was very proud of his army. While Bismarck was strategic in all of his plans, Wilhelm II's moves made the war harder for Germany. The lapse in the treaty with Russia made Russia form an alliance with France, the beginning of the Triple Entente.

    Conflicts Over Morocco
    In 1905 and again in 1911, Germany and France nearly fought over who would control Morocco , in Northern Africa. Most of Europe supported France, so Germany backed down.
    This even was significant because it was an example of how imperialism, the forceful taking over of a country by another country, lead to WW1.

    Creation of the Triple Entente
    Before the year 1907, England had created an alliance, with France because of the growing strength of the German navy, but in 1907, England created another entente with France and Russia. This alliance did not ensure that all countries would ever fight side by side with each other.
    The significance of this event is that it almost completly ensured the English that they would not go to war with the Russians and the French, which eliminated two enemies for the English.

  • Austria annexing Bosnia and Herzegovina

    Austria annexing Bosnia and Herzegovina
    In the year of 1908, Austria-Hungry annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina, two territories in the Balkan Pennisula that had a large population of Slavs.
    This annexation was important because it gave the Slavs a reason to get angry at Austria. This anger then lead to the first battles of World War I.

    Rise of MIlitarism
    MIlitarism is the building up armed forces and getting ready for war. Militarism was started for all of the World War I partisipants in the days of imperialism, or competion for the growing of colonies, and ended in 1914. All of the countries, except for Great Britian which had a strong navy, had developed a strong armies.
    The significance of this was that the counrties were al very prepared for war. Also, it rose the nationalism, or the country pride.

  • The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand

    The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
    On June 28, 1914, the Archduke Ferdinand and his wife went to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia where they died. These two were shot by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian and a member of the Black, a group whos jobs were to free Bosnia of the Austrian rule.
    This event was ultimatly the trigger of the start of World War 1. This was a very significant assassination because it lead to the demands of Austria which was then somewhat agreed to by the Serbians, and ultimatly angered Austria.

    Austria Declares war on Serbia
    After the assassination, Austria was in no mode to negotiate what to do and what not to do. Instead, Austria declared war on Serbia.
    This event was significant because it was the very first declaration of war in World War I. Also, this opened a door for Russia to step into the war due to Serbia being an ally of theirs.

    Germany Declares war on Russia and Two Days Later, Declares War on France
    In response to Russia joining Serbia and mobilizing along the German boarder, Germany quickly reacted and declared war on Russia on August 1st. Then, due to the inferance of France joining Russia in the war, Germany declared war on France two days later.
    This event is significant because in was the first time the the Triple Entente was able to test the trust in their alliance.

    Britian Declares War o Germany
    In effect of Germany declaring war on the other two members of the Triple Entente, Britian declared war on Germany.
    This was a significant event because it meant that many of the large powers in Europe were now at war.
