19 year old Gavrilo Princip of the group called the Black Hand killed the Archduke on June 28, 1914. Both the Archduke and his wife were killed. This event is the real start to WW1. -
Austria Declares War On Serbia
Austria blamed Serbia for the assassination of the Archduke and his wife and declared war against Serbia. Even though Russia was allied with Serbia, they wanted to help. On June 28, 1918 The Treaty of Versailles was signed by the Germans. The Treaty of Versailles was the most important of the peace treaties that brought WW1 to an end. The treaty ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers.
