The triple entente consisted of Russia, France, and Britain. The triple entente would play a role in WWI because in war the numbers of your troops is everything. The bigger the army the better odds you have of winning. -

Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated. This was a major event in U.S. history leading to the WWI because he was the heir to the Austria-Hungary throne. They were assassinated by Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip while visiting Sarajevo. -

President Woodrow Wilson announces that the U.S. will remain nuetral in the war. This is a huge event because the U.S. could play a huge factor in the war. -

The U.K. announced that the North Sea was a military area. This effectively made a blockade of goods going into Germany. -
Germany declares "war zone" around Great Britain
On February fourth Germany declared the area around Great Britain a "war zone". This effected a submarine blockade where even the neutral merchant vessels were targeted. -

The Battle of the Somme begins. This is the very first time that tanks are intorduced to a war. This is a turning point in history because tanks are still used to this day for military purposes. -
United States becomes part of war
The U.S. declares war on Germany. This is a huge part in the war because the U.S. could have a major influence on which way the war ends up going. -
Bolsheviks overthrow Russian government
Bolsheviks overthrow the Russian government during the 1917 Russian revolution. -
Germany signs armistice
When Germany signs this it declares they are done fighting. The fighting ends on the 11th day of the 11th month on the 11th hour. This is now known today as veterans day. -
End of WWI
The treaty of versailles ends WWI officially. This is the last document that when signed officially ended the war. -
