Chinese Nationalists

In 1911 the Revolutionary Alliance a successor to the Kuomintang overthrew the last emporor in the Qing dynasty. The Qing had ruled since 1644.

World War I begins

Austria declares war of Serbia due to the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo the capital of Bosnia.

U.S. Enters the war

Mar 16, 1917

Due to Unrestricted submarine warfare and the Zimmerman telegram the United States enters the war on the side of the Allies.

Armistice signed

Mar 16, 1918

Kaiser Wilhem was forced to step down and Germany became a republic. A German rep. from the new government met with Commander Marshal Foch and they signed the armistice in a railway car near Paris. World War I came to an end.

Civil disobedience

Mar 16, 1920

When the British refused to punish the officers responsible for the Amritsar massacre Gandhi launched a camapaign of civil disobedience.

Turkey becomes a Republic

Mar 16, 1923

After world war I Turkey was close to being invaded by the Greeks. Mustafa Kemal saved the Turks and took office. He became the first president of the Republic of Turkey.

Long March

The communist were forced to run from the Nationalist. They traveled about 6,000 miles. Many died from hunger and cold, and exposure. The march was lead by Mao Zedong .
