    Proclomation of the German Empire
    In a France defeated and invaded after the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, Chancellor Bismarck proclaimed the Germas Empire in the Hall of Mirrors. The defeat in the Franco-Prussian War led to the birth of Revanchism (literaly revenge-ism) in France, characterised by a deep sense of bitterness,hatred and demand for revenge against Germany.

    Morrocan crisis
    Moroccan rebels attacked the town of Frez in 1911. The Sultan asked the French for help, who responded by sending a French army to help stop the rebellion. Wihlem accused the French of invading Morocco and senta warship "the panther" to the port of Agadir to protect German interests.

    In 1908 Austria-Hungary took advantage of growing chaos within the Balkans and added Bosnia-Herzegovina to its empire. This created another international crisis following on from the Moroccan Crisis of 1905.

    Between 1912-1913 there was a series of local wars within the Balkans. A key result of these wars was that Serbia doubled its size. The growing threat of Serbia, made Austria-Hungary even more determined to crush the Serbians.

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was tried to be assassinated by a Serbian terrorist Cabrinovic. However Cabrinovic failed becuase the bomb exploded under a different car and the Archduke remained alive. After leaving the Town Hall, the driver took a wrong turn, where Gavrilo Princip shot the Archduke and his wife

    Austria-Hungary declares war upon Serbia
    Austria Hungary was outraged by the event, and immediatly blamed Serbia for it. At a meeting on July 5th, Berlin reassured that Austria-Hungary would have Germany's support and with that the Austrian-Hungary empire issued an ultimatum to Serbia. Serbia agreed to most demands, apart from the extreme ones. This did not satisfy Austria-Hungary and they declared war on Serbia.

    Russia was now determined to fully support Serbia and the Russian Tsar ordered Russia's mobilization.

    When France did not agree to the ultimatum that Germany proposed, Germany declared war on France. An ultimatum was also declared towards Russia, but they did not accept it.Germany then declared war on Russia.

    Since Germany wanted to invade Belgium, Britain stepped in to protect the country, becuase the treaty of London was signed.

    Russian Empire, France, Britain and Italy signed the Treaty of London, which led to the forming of the Allied Powers. Later, USA joined the war.
