All four oldest girls but the royal couple was desperate of r an heir and had another child that was a boy named Alexei. Alexei had a serious condition of hemophilia. They kept this a secret so the public wouldn't doubt the Czar because Alexei wasn't really heir material.

    Alexei became worse and worse and the Czar was becoming desperate for noone could heal Alexei. A rumor goes around about Rasputin and they call him in. Rasputin helps Alexei and heals him . Though Rasputin had a bad reputation they kept him around the Palace in secret to heal Alexei. After Czar leaves to war the Czarina was left in charge and is constantly looking to Rasputin for advice. Rasputin gains great power because of this and also many enemies. .He is murdered later by enemies.

    After the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand alliances quickly blame and defend their neighboring countries. Troops where sent in as support and the Germans tried to defeat both France and Russia by quickly invading France and turning around quickly to invade Russia before it could collect forces. This was called the Schlieffen Plan. Unfortunately France was a bit more prepared than Germany thought and a stalemate occurs.

    New modern warfare starts to set in as Germany first uses poison gas. 18,000 shells loaded against Russia on the Eastern Front. It is then adopted by other countries and becomes a frequent occurrence .

    Maria wanted to join the war but was told to be a nurse. She went to the Czar himself who then granted permission to let her fight. Maria wanted to help encourage other woman like her to join the war but they were not aloud. She went all over the country to gain permission and soon formed the first women battalion. She made a great impact and was a strong feminist who motivated many women that felt neglected.

    Czar gives no freedom to the Russian people and they become very angry about it. The Czars beliefs inabsolute power tightens and people are suffering. The Czar is soon overthrown and forced to leave Russia and a temporary government sets in.

    The new temporary government is weak. Stalin and the Bolsheviks see this as an opportunity to rally the people and promote communism.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    War had gone on for many years and the Germans had caused huge amounts of damage and there was no improvement so a "cease fire" was called for. Many leaders met in Versailles to make a peace treaty. Because of the Germans damage they had no choice but to agree to the punishment they would receive. This unfair trial led to anger from Germany that would soon motivate World War 2.
