  • The British ocean liner RMS Lusitania is sunk by German U-boat, U-20

    Lusitania primarily ferried people and goods across the Atlantic Ocean between the United States and Great Britain. Of the 1,959 people on board, 1,198 died, including 128 Americans. This is why the US decided to get involved in the war.

  • The Treaty of Versailles officially ends WWI.

    Exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Germany's representatives Hermann Müller and Johannes Bell signed the Versailles Treaty in the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles near Paris, France.
