What prompted the murder was serbian nationalism that had been growing in Serbia since it's independence was recgonized, abnd both their land and influence had grown. The death of the duke came to be known as the spark of world war 1 as rival allainces clashed. -
As nationalism had grown slowly in countries for many decades most citizens strongly believed the countries they supported or were apart of would prevail. -

The Western front consisted of trenches that had been dug starting at the English channel and ending in Switzerland. It came to be the site of many stalemates between the allies and German forces. Life was full of hardhships in the trenches and the amount of deaths was disproportionate to any victories gained.
