    Germany Becomes a Unified Nation

    Although they became unified, Great Britain and France beat them in the colonies scramble. This made Germany's leaders very upset.

    This was an alliance that was created by Germany, with its main intention being that it would lower the tension between themselves and Russia.
  • Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary Form the Triple Alliance

    Similar to the Three Emperors’ Alliance, this was created by Germany to try and ease the possibility of Italy and Austria-Hungary become an ally to France and a threat to the German people.

    Due to the Three Emperors’ League falling apart, Germany made sure to form this treaty in order to insure that Russia was still on their good side as well as continuing to isolate France.

    Russo-Japanese War

    Russia and Japan declared to fight each other over the control of Manchuria and Korea. Separate countries stepped in to end the war, however, and neither country ended up being happy with the results.
  • Britain, France, and Russia form the Triple Entente

    Due to Britain's fears about Germany as a whole, they were prompted to link up with France and Russia's Alliance. This link up led to what was known as the Triple Entente
  • Austria-Hungary Annexes Bosnia-Herzegovina

    Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1908, and they had been nervous of Serbia trying to rally unrest among minority ethnic groups.

    The first one of the 2 wars was made to settle the Ottoman rule happening on the peninsula. The second one was to divide the Ottoman among the Balkans. In both wars, Serbia had the backing of Russia
  • Ottoman Empire Joins War with Germany and Austria-Hungary to form Central Powers

    When the Ottoman empire officially chose to join the war, they took the side of Germany and Austria-Hungary, which then created the Central Powers. Bulgaria joined them later on.

    After Franz Ferdinand was killed, Austria Hungary thought that now was the time to take advantage of a weaker Serbia. They made many extreme demands that the expected Serbia to reject, but they actually accepted a lot of them. Austria-Hungary declared war anyways, however.
  • Germany Gives Russia 24 Hours to Halt its Mobilization

    After Russia was set to mobilize their army in preparation for war, Germany became nervous. In response, they told Russia they had 24 hours to stop mobilizing, or else they would declare war.

    The main use of poison gas during WW1 was to try and drive out troops from their trenches. It became popular among all troops, and they were initially used with artillery shells.

    Despite being neutral during the start of World War One, Italy later on joined and chose to take the side of the allied powers.

    Germany Tries Repeated Attacks on France

    During the length of the war, Germany constantly attempted to send multiple attacks onto France.
  • Great Britain Declares War on Germany

    At one point, German troops were trying to enter into Belgium's territory. After they were denied, Germany chose to attack Belgium. Great Britain was outraged by this, since Belgium was just trying to stay neutral, so they declared war on Germany.

    After remaining neutral while Europe first broke out into war, United States and Germany got into frustration with each other. After feuding with Germany over boats, ships, blockades, and more, the United states got fed up and declared war on Germany

    The Fourteen Points

    Once the U.S. had finally joined the war, president Woodrow Wilson laid out 14 different goals that he had for the United States and the other Allied countries during the war. Although the Allied countries didn't agree with the 14 points, they didn't mention it because they needed the U.S.'s help. Later on, it played a key role in Germany's withdrawal.

    After Russia made the decision to withdraw in 1917, Germany tried to take advantage of the area and take out Britain and France before the American troops arrived. After stopping many of Germany's attacks, the Allies counter attacked. The Turkish, and later Austria Hungary both surrendered. Once Germany was about to undergo a personal revolution, they needed to surrender to save their country. They officially surrendered on 11/11/1918
