    Moses Austin gets land grant from Mexico to bring more people to Texas
  • Mexico Enforcing Laws in Texas and Rejecting American Settlers

    Mexico began enforcing Mexican laws such as no slaves and did not let any more Americans settle in Texas for fear of loosing it.

    The Battle of San Jacinto

    -New volunteers joined the army -Scouts told of where Mexicans were -April 21 1836 the Texans caught Mexicans by surprise -The Battle of San Jacinto lasted 18 minutes -Texans killed 630 and captured 700 -next they captured Santa Anna forcing him to grant Texas their independence
  • James Polk

    James Polk was very fond of Manifest Destiny and wanted to expand westward and won the election in 1845
  • Border Dispute

    Conflict with Mexico began when the United States annexed Texas as a state in 1845. Mexico claimed that the new border between Texas and Mexico was the Nueces River, while the United States contested the border was the Rio Grande. Fighting began when a detachment of U.S. cavalry was attacked near the Rio Grande.
