  • Westborough's First Settlers

    Westborough's First Settlers
    Thomas Rice was the first person to settle in Westborough. He played an important role for finding Westborough High School's location by settling right on the site where WHS lies currently. The Canawaugha Indians from Canada captured him.
  • First High School

    First High School
    The first Westborough High School was built on Science hill, which is now School Street. Silas Stone was the first high school teacher who taught 20 subjects to around 25 students.
  • First Graduation

    In 1872, the first students graduated from Westborough High School. Evidence shows that there were only three students.
  • Second High School

    Frank and Frannie Forbes built and presented to the town a new high school on the site of former Whitney Hotel, which is a 14-room school. This soon to became Westborough High School and Junior High. This is now called our Municipal Building in 2017.
  • New Elementary School

    A new Westborough Elementary School opened on 50 West Street and was considered a marvel of modern school construction.
  • Third High School

    Third High School
    The new Westborough High School was built on Fisher Street due to the overwhelming population increase.
  • J. Harding Armstrong Elementary School

    This new elementary school was renamed J. Harding Armstrong after a former WHS principal and superintendent. Armstrong started with two classrooms for each grade 1 through 6.
  • Annie E. Fales Elementary School

    Annie E. Fales Elementary School
    Annie E. Fales was a school teacher who spent 50 years of her life in Westborough. She moved to Westborough at the age of seven in 1874 and graduated Westborough High School in 1885. She began teaching at the District Eight school house. Later, she taught the sixth grade and then was the principal at Eli Whitney School until 1937. Upon her death, in 1974 at the age of 104 she was recognized as the town's oldest resident and a fine teacher. The Annie E. Fales Elementary School was built in 1963.
  • High Schools Changes Location Again

    The growth in the school population caused for another move to what is now the current facility at 90 West Main Street
  • Hastings Elementary School

    Hastings Elementary School
    The elementary school was built in 1970 on the edge of Cedar Swamp. It was named after Elsie Hastings who had a 43 year teaching career in the Westborough public schools. This school was different than the others as it was set up in pods, not hallways.
  • Armstrong Elementary Renovations

    The school was closed for renovations, so the grade five students spent a year in one wing of the high school. 13 classrooms were added, a computer lab, music and art rooms, new gyms, and new offices. In 1997, the school reopened.

    More Armstrong Renovations
    Four portable classrooms were added to the back of the school to have space for the increasing population of Westborough's students.
  • High School Renovation

    High School Renovation
    The high school underwent a renovation, and a large addition was completed. New classrooms, gymnasiums, an auditorium, and a music wing was added to the school.
  • Mill Pond School

    Mill Pond School
    Mill Pond School was built in 2002 because the population of the town had greatly increased.
  • J. Harding Armstrong Elementary Celebrations

    In 2002-2003 the students and faculty of J. Harding Armstrong School celebrated the school's 50th anniversary with the creation of a time capsule and special activities during field day.
  • Sarah W. Gibbons Middle School Renovations

    The past year, 2016 into 2017, Gibbons has encountered many new renovations. This includes, updated versions of classrooms, new lockers, gym improvements, and electrical renovation purposes.
  • Current WHS Today

    Today Westborough High School is a welcoming community. Each class consists of about 250 students. Our school was ranked in the top 100 public high schools in 2016. We love our community and we hope you do too!
